About me and my works

I like to consider myself as “an artisan of art” as my goal is to make a work that creates emotions in my referent and this practice of ” well doing” represents for me a great privilege, because it allows me to have a immediate relationship with the emotions of others, which is why my creativity is understood as a reciprocal generosity, a powerful grant of energy of giving and receiving at the same time. Animals represent an important component of my life, having lived for many years in the countryside together with dogs and cats. For this reason, I dedicated to them my most recent works in acrylic. After the watercolors of “still life” and of “I portici di Bologna” shown in an exhibition named “daily atmospheres”, I started to make portraits of friends with their pet. In the ancient complicity between human being and animals there is a reciprocal enrichment of great intensity and full of mysterious and magical aspects.  I make portraits with the aspiration that emotional intensity arises from the relationship “person – animal” sublimated in a relationship between their soul. I am used to tell the episode that constitutes my true “initiation” in choosing this topic.

Years ago I was by my friend Giorgia, and when I asked about her cat, she held him in her arms. There was a great light coming through the window and the color of my friend’s sweater and hair created a very beautiful effect. I had the good habit of carrying in my bag a digital camera to take instants, so I took it and I was ready to take a picture when my friend asked me to take a picture only of the cat I didn’t take care of this kind of extravagance and I took the picture to both my friend and her cat. It was such a beautiful picture that it pushed me to experience for the first time the realization of portraits in acrylic, which was at the bottom of my wishes. I did this first portrait, with some difficulty and emotion but, at the end, was very satisfied and I wanted to show it to Giorgia, during of a meeting with her friends. No else I showed her the picture and she groaned in surprise, staggering towards me and a stifled hiccup. At this point, I was filled with fear looking at her reaction, probably due to not having respected her prohibition to photograph her. I approached her asking for forgiveness, but she whispered : “No, it is not for that. I am excited because I usually do not like pictures of myself, but in this portrait,… however,… yes ! You have represented a part of me that I did not know … there, I really like it!” As you can imagine, all the friends start crying with emotion. This episode has been fundamental in all my next production of portraits with animals and has deeply encouraged me to continue on this topic, where the person’s face becomes so sweet because of the presence of the “friend” and loses the, often typical, self-referential air. The word “Best friend” referring to  animals, was created by  Giorgio Celli, ethnologist and art critic of international fame, for my third personal exhibition, in May 2008 at the IL PUNTO Gallery, in Bologna, which he presented. In fact, he gave to this exhibition  the title “friends, rather,  BEST friends!”

Giorgio Celli, of which I made the portrait with his cat Cyrus and of which there is my great painting on the walls of the Vicolo dei gatti  ( Alley of cats ) in Tolè -a little  town near Bologna-  wanted to underline the spirit of the exhibition with these words that summarize the Philosophy of my works. The relationship between human beings and animals, especially pets, dogs and cats, but also horses, grows in importance time after time, assuming the forms for someone, of a mother, but for others of a true friendship of equality. Dogs and cats are becoming more and more our indispensable companions in the path of life; we recognize ourselves in them and find ourselves, and we are increasingly convinced that they are not “robots” as Cartesio thought, but beings capable of feelings and clever actions. Anna  Rita Dallolio is a painter who has  dedicated her work to this relationship, doing portraits in which the “Master”, as it was said in the past, and his friend from home, appear together, and between the two friends seems to flow, not only a common sympathy but even a similarity of character. This is not difficult to understand because humans almost choose the animal that are closest in an ethological sense. An independent- person will prefer cats -also very independent- while those who are more inclined to command will prefer the dog, an animal ready to obey. In the portraits of the painter Dallolio this consonance is declared in an explicit way: the old lady has a very affectionate cat, the lively  old man a kitten with bright eyes, the young man is together with an animal full of life and if the person is a Little extravagant, he exhibits even a turtle! In these double portraits, the painter seems to have a true ethological intuition”.

If you want to have a portrait with your friends from home, or give a gift to a loved one, maybe to celebrate an important date, write me.
Usually I personally take the picture, then I paint the portrait in acrylic on canvas with measures 50 × 50 or 40 × 40 cm, or others upon request. I can also use a nice picture of you or, if you appreciate it, I can help you take the picture, advising you on how I prefer the framing.
Although preferring to reproduce people with their animal for the particular feeling that I feel and that I try to transfer in my work, I also make any type of portrait, of single people or of single animals, using possible existing photos. I can also make portraits of people with their no more living animal, with a picture of an animal in high quality.
I personally appreciate delivering the painting myself because I think it is a unique and incomparable suggestive experience. In fact, a set of strong emotions is triggered both for those who deliver and for those who receive. Perhaps because, making the portrait, my sensibility has chosen among infinite possibilities that image that sublimates the relationship between the two represented beings and who receives the portrait discovers an aspect of him that he often did not know.
